Job Description
Sharq Insurance in Doha is seeking a Manager – Medical Underwriting to lead the Medical Underwriting function. The role involves overseeing underwriting operations, developing strategies, managing a high-performing team, and ensuring profitability and compliance. This senior, full-time, on-site position requires 10-15 years of insurance experience with extensive background in Medical Underwriting and leadership.
## Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Medical Underwriting function, ensuring operational excellence and achievement of business objectives
- Develop and implement underwriting strategies aligned with company strategic goals and regulatory requirements
- Evaluate and approve underwriting decisions while ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and risk management standards
- Partner with Sales, Brokers, Bancassurance, Reinsurance, TPAs, Finance, Actuarial and other stakeholders to deliver competitive and profitable insurance solutions
- Oversee pricing recommendations in collaboration with actuarial teams, balancing risk and commercial objectives
- Drive product development, process improvement, quality enhancement initiatives, and service excellence across the department
- Monitor departmental KPIs, productivity, profitability, and service levels to ensure high performance
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, audit standards, and governance frameworks
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers, reinsurers, regulators, and other external stakeholders
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Medical Underwriting team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
## Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, Mathematics, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline
- 10–15 years of experience within the insurance industry
- Extensive experience in Medical Underwriting, including several years in a managerial leadership role
- Strong knowledge of medical insurance products, underwriting principles, pricing, and risk assessment
- Excellent understanding of insurance regulations, compliance requirements, and industry best practices
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage stakeholder relationships, and deliver business results
- Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and leadership skills
